The "Wafa Cinema" was the first cinema in Ethiopia and has already been established a century ago. The cinema which has been called "Satan bet" was closed during the Derg Regime and for the last twenty years. In november 2011 the cinema opened its doors again and is showing Amharic movies since than.

Embilta Cinema is one of the modern cinema Halls in Addis situated inside Embilta Hotel located between Ras Desta Hospital and Pasteur Institute to the northwestern part of the city.

Cinema Empire is one of the earliest cinemas in Ethiopia. It is located near Piazza in the heart of Addis Ababa; Go to the beginning of Adwa Road that takes you from Piazza to Arat Kilo. The Empire shows both local and international films. On weekdays, foreign films start at 11 am while local movies start after 2 pm. But on weekends the cinema shows local movies at 11 am, 2 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm.

Cinema Ethiopia is located near Piazza, next to the Electric and Power Authority in Addis Ababa. It screens both local Amharic films as well as foreign films, especially American and Indian made films. It has 1,017 seats.
