WorldView and Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program offer a new Documentary Award for Research & Development for films about the developing world

One feature length cinematic documentary film in the development stage will be awared a 10,000 pound grant, enhanced with professional access to film mentorship from a WorldView and/or Sundance Institute supported director.

Documentary projects are welcome from emerging filmmakers from all corners of the globe, with well-crafted stories about a social justice issue in the developing world.

The winning proposal must aim to intrigue and engage audiences in the UK and have UK broadcast rights available, and expect to sign a letter of agreement with WorldView.

Finalists will be contacted the second week in April. The Award will be recognized during Sundance London Film and Music Festival April 26 - 29, 2012.

Selection criteria

Applications will be assessed on the basis of the following selection criteria:

• Suitability of subject matter in improving understanding of developing countries (as demonstrated by the treatment submitted as part of the application process).

• Broadcast potential

• Originality and innovation in approaching the subject matter

Applicants are encouraged to consider a context for outreach to maximise the social impact of their films.

The winner will be awarded during Sundance in London.

Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program is a core program of Sundance Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to the discovery and development of independent artists.

WorldView is a CBA [Commonwealth Broadcasting Association] Project that aims to improve UK public understanding and awareness of the developing world via the mainstream broadcast and digital media.
