2009 Global Visions Film Festival Call for Entries

Global Visions, Canada’s oldest documentary film festival, invites filmmakers from across Canada and around the world to submit their documentaries for our 28th annual festival, November 5-8, 2009.  Our festival program will showcase some 40 outstanding new films that document the social and environmental issues that challenge the world. Selected films combine excellence in the art of documentary storytelling with a passion to inform, intrigue, amuse, enrage and inspire.

We project with state of the art technology in multiple established cinemas that hold from 250 to 650, and we frequently follow screenings with discussions featuring filmmakers, or leading academics drawn from the University of Alberta, Canada’s second largest university.  We accept documentary films made within the last two years, with exceptions at the discretion of the festival. Films may be of any length; we program shorter films with feature productions and often combine two mid length films into a single thematic program. Selected films must not have been shown in the Edmonton area, and films that have received a national telecast will not be eligible.

Films submitted should be in DVD format (NTSC, Region 1), in English or in their original language version with English subtitles. Those selected for the festival may be screened in HDCAM, Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, and 35mm.

Entry fees are:

•    $35 entry fee, films more than 70 minutes. Cdn $ for Canadian entries, all others, U.S.$
•    $25 entry fee, films 30-70 minutes. Funds as above.
•    Entry fees waived for films under 30 minutes, and Alberta productions.

Deadline for receipt of entry form, fees and DVD screener is July 10, 2009.  Films must be submitted with a 2009 submission form available on our website. Click here to go to our Submissions page and download an entry form.
